In the first term of graduate work (which normally occurs in the Fall), all Broadcast Cinema students take a 7 week intensive concerning the work of the Editor. The curriculum provides an overview of narrative motion picture post-production: the role of the picture editor, the sound designer, the title designer, the composer, the actor, and the laboratory. This course provides a basis for further concentration on narrative motion picture post production.
After the first term at Art Center, the Editing Track graduate student may enroll in editing workshop classes taught by Howard Heard or Monte Bramer. These are small classes offering a high degree of personal instruction. These classes may be shown as undergraduate or "beginning" courses in the catalogue, but graduate students are welcome to take them, and they will be encouraged to work up to the highest level of their capacity. The Editing Track student may also enroll in a master seminar relating to post production; this is an opportunity to work on a one-on-one basis with a faculty member who specializes in professional narrative film editing. This course may be taken as many times as needed to perfect the student's portfolio.
