CINEMATOGRAPHY

The desire to become a recognized Director of Photography in the entertainment industry is perceived as a daunting challenge by many photographic artists. Many Directors of Photography were formerly still photographers. Some of them move back and forth between the two, very different, disciplines. Their acquired knowledge of new and old technologies will help them to achieve the visual aesthetics they wish to create, in a practical sense. But who will teach them how to network/collaborate on a personal level and "practice" efficiently enough to compel, intrigue, and impress those producers and directors who may choose to give a graduating student director of photography the opportunity to actually become a professional director of photography?

Directors of photography who choose the graduate-level Broadcast Cinema Program will gain significant experience in collaboration techniques and practice through works done within our conservatory process at Art Center. We have no pre-determined agenda regarding the form, content, or style of the works. Each student Director of Photography will work with the Program Chair to create a customized curriculum designed to further enhance their existing skills and provide multiple production opportunities.

Aspiring directors of photography enrolled in the Broadcast Cinema Program will be given the opportunity to practice their skills during each of the four terms within the program. In addition, the program utilizes a unique provision that allows directors of photography to continue to photograph portfolio level projects for three more terms after completing the program's required curriculum. We believe our program to be an extraordinary opportunity for directors of photography who need to increase their practical experience and build a professional-level reel at the same time. The average ratio of DP's to directors in the Broadcast Cinema Program is 10 directors to one DP. We purposely keep the enrollment of directors of photography at low figures to provide more opportunities to work with several directors during their studies. Please contact the Broadcast Cinema Program Chair with any additional inquiries.
