GRADUATE BROADCAST CINEMA
Art Center's Graduate Broadcast Cinema curriculum encourages students to create beyond existing genres, designing new forms of storytelling and methods of production.
~ Robert Peterson, Chair

In Art Center's Graduate Broadcast Cinema Department, we believe the single most important aspect of a filmmaking education is the development of an individual's creative identity.
A compelling story, delivered through a unique personal perspective and presented with universal clarity, can inspire audiences around the world.

Our program attracts filmmakers with diverse storytelling skills as well as some who are new to the discipline. There are no boundaries among disciplines here. Collaborations between students and faculty from all majors allow ideas to flourish, providing an unparalleled creative environment for filmmakers.

Creative freedom and experimentation are the hallmarks of our program, which is customized to the goals of each individual student. Our students are given an opportunity to create, direct and own their work. They may focus on directing and screenwriting or a specialized creative role such as production designer, director of photography, editor or producer. Faculty mentors - exemplary artists and filmmakers from around the globeguide and assist students in the design, development and production of their projects.

There are no barriers to impede a student's right to author and direct their own works. Some elect to create public service announcements or promotional films for real clients, such as the United Nations, through Designmatters.

Our proximity to Hollywood makes Art Center an ideal choice for aspiring and contemporary filmmakers to enhance their skills and develop their concepts. Our award-winning alumni are prominent in all aspects of the entertainment industry—directors, writers, producers, directors of photography, production designers and editors.

The Broadcast Cinema Program focuses on the creation of new entrepreneurial studios and pilot programs for existing and future forms of broadcast media. Early development of an individual creative identity for each student is the most essential aspect of our curriculum. Students choose from producing, directing/screenwriting, production design, cinematography and editing specializations. We guide our filmmakers to create beyond existing genres, design new forms of storytelling and invent new methods of production. The program attracts students with diverse filmmaking skills, as well as some who are new to the discipline.
