CUBE COMMUNITY DATA JOURNAL - Humanized Data Stories

The 'Cube Community' refers to a group of designers who share a studio section in the Wind Tunnel of Art Center College of Design. The Data Journal portrayed this kind of collective living through a locally built sensor network.

The network consisted of 6 pressure sensitive 'doormats' ( one upon the entrance of the section and five in each member's office space) networked to one processor. Once a doormat was triggered, a line will be pushed to a CSV file that documented the time of the occurrence. A power consumption meter was plugged in to measure 3 of the members' electricity consumption as a supplementary way of monitoring human activities. Meanwhile a journal was written by one of the community member to keep track of roughly what happened during each period of time.

I combined the data collected from the sensors and the diary to generated a Data Journal, to fuse a mixd experience of reading the data. It is also my intention to question whether behavior sensing technologies, once intervened by human participation of a random kind, can influence the way we interpret and perceive our living environment.
