Multi-Monitors

Boundary of perception, as I have learned from these case studies, human perception is truly limited to only perceive a single channel at a time. Perceiving multiply screens at a time torture our visual sense, but designing a "pause" into the whole multi-monitors allows the idea to open up in a possible way.

Rearrange of Media_Citizen Kane in Three Parts

My early thesis experimentation revealed difficulties and possibilities for using framing as a re-narrative tool. Taking Citizen Kane as my media material, I started with a series of live performance using the LiveView application to stream motion images onto iPhone devices in real time. I started with one frame only, narrowing down into one character or specific element that which I found an interesting retelling of the original.  However, in the end the one frame narrative wasn't enough to make the original story more interesting.

For the next step, I moved on to dual performers, having two editors capture different characters. The result became more dynamic and the idea of a dimensional aspect started to flow out of the surface work. Each character was separated onto individual screens, so each screen became the extension of the character and the positioning of the displays created a language of dimension.

I then asked two more performers to re-narrate Citizen Kane along with myself. The three of us were responsible for capturing different elements, such as the main character, supporting character, specific gestures and texture of the environments. The experience of dimension was consciously composed, due to the flexibility of having the characters in different positions. It was intended so that the audience can merge into the narrative spaces, side-by-side to the characters.
