Sacred Space

Object & Space

In this class, we chose a single word to describe the design topic "Sacred Space". The word I chose was DREAM (aspiration). We also needed to design a piece of furniture and lamp for the space.

The class was a challenge from the very beginning. Designing a space was an unfamiliar territory for me. I had to transfer my ideas from sketches to three dimensions without losing the two dimensional characteristics was challengeable. As the model started from a small scale and gradually became bigger, the challenge has raised to another level. I had to constantly make sure the main structures fitted my original idea and concept in order to drive the project forward. During the design process, I also had to pay extra attentions to very different details than traditional graphic and interaction designs. It was almost impossible to execute the design from a two dimensional perspective. Moreover, use of proper material to decorate the space and build the object that clearly communicates designer's idea was a very good learning lesson.
