Half Full or Half Empty
New Ecology of Things

This project is a four-week exercise to raise concerns and questions about the subject of ubiquitous computing. The main idea is to build an useless network, and by knowing what doesn't work to gain more insights about what will work. Information processing is integrated into everyday life in the age of ubiquitous computing. Everything is connected on Internet and has its own ability to make decisions. My idea is a cup with capability to detect emotions of the person holding it. So it will search data on Internet and project them on wall to set the room to appropriate atmospheres. However, instead of projecting expected images, it goes wrong by interpreting the whole idea from a different perspective and generating horror footages. With the rapidly evolving technology, the world of Ubicomp described by Mark Wiser is not far from the future. It's just a matter of time we will be able to install microprocessors on everything and personal computer will seem outdated. The impact will be tremendous but it's also important to focus on the downside of it. Privacy and information overload will be the issues we have to deal with. It also means we will heavily depend on technology much more than we do now. Imagine a world when objects make all your decisions, are we still be able to function without technology? Just because we can do it, does that mean we should?
