Ways of using type in space
To deliver information in a space, designers, artists and architects attempted to integrate type and meaning with context.
Japanese sculptor, Takenobu Igarashi designed three-dimensional alphabets, and thereby translating two-dimensional pictograms into tangible objects. Stephan Segmister created typography with natural materials that related to the meaning of the word to offer a more emotional impact.
Display technologies also include embedded screens, which enable animated type in architectural space. However, three-dimensional type is static and using technology in space is still confined to a screen.
There are needs of poetic and organic ways of communicating messages in space. |
