Design probes are tools that we create to find answers without having to physically intrude into the space of our research subjects. This allows subjects to partake in a study without feeling that someone is constantly observing them. This increases the chance for more honest and realistic feedback.
We created and placed probes in each of the families homes that would allow us to make discoveries without our presence. Timecapsules, photojournals, doodle boards, private journals, playback telephone recorders, card games and travel logs...we put these elements in each families homes to try and uncover the ideas behind our bounding terms of stickiness, conversation and existence value.
