  THE NAVIGATION GOALS OF REDESIGNING THE WIKIPEDIA WEBSITE  
 

1. Link up users’ experience to the library by increasing some humanized functions.

Virtual Library
Usage of real time web-cam to answer questions online. (Just like the experience of an actual library.)

2. Reorganize the information with a new navigation system by taking the
advantage of widescreen space for design.

A “what you need” navigation system. The user can organize what they want to see on Wikipedia. Three areas are provided on the screen; one is
the navigation pool, the second is the user’s need pool and the third is the user’s content pool.

3. Bring a easy-to-use and fast experience to the users, whether or not they acquire and edit
the information on the new Wikipedia.

Development of a more useful advanced search function. (e.g. result pages derived from a keyword and portal-based search function).

4. Increase the credibility of content by screening the information source.

Creation of a the scoring function for every article. The person(s) writing or editing articles has the right to utilize a rating system with the possible addition of rating points.

  SPECIAL TECHNICAL CHALLENGES  
  Live video will be operated by individuals around the world in real-time. Bandwidth will be a key issue for usability.  
     
  PAGE SIZE TARGETS  
 

Page Dimensions and Size:
Page size will be under 120k. The web site will be designed for wider screens 1800 x 1000 resolution.

 
     
  FILE NAMING CONVENTION  
 

Title Tag:
Page titles should include “wiki” and then the secondary navigation name: site name_secondary name (e.g., http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/community_portal)

Web file naming rules :
- No spaces, special characters or uppercase letters in the filenames.
- Underscores will be used for spacing in file names.
- Files will have the proper suffix/extension. (e.g., .html, .gif, .jpg)
- Numbering convention will utilize 3-digit solutions. (wiki_004.gif)
- Images are to be named according to their function, section and/or page name, reflecting the information design.

Cascading Style Sheets Naming Rules:

CSS names will be named according to their function, in order to maintain separation of content and navigation.
