1. NAVIGATION DESIGN

The navigation goals of redesigning Google website are:

To develop the search result pages.
That shows multi-results like web, images, local, etc. User could move the categories around the page and change the size of the displays, juxtapose search result boxes.

To access many of Google services.
From the home page, the user could choose FROOGLE, MAPS, FINANCE, LOCAL, GROUPS... ETC, and be directed to a page that uses the same interface as the search page, but is specific to the content.

To make Google useful for both grazers and serious searchers who are looking for quick information.

* For grazer: Simultaneous multi-search results would be good for people just looking around for random interesting information like current service, if user type search word(s) and click search button, user can get results.

* For serious searcher: User can get narrow down search results through new functions such as clusters, directories, and clarification.

2. DISCUSSION OF TOOLS & TECHNOLOGIES TO BE USED
Our goals regarding tools & technologies are to make the exploratory and dynamic site.

Programs:
Graphic: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Image ready, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Flash
Site Building: Macromedia Dreamweaver, Micromedia Flash

Supported Platforms:
We recommend supporting both PC and Macs.

Supported Browsers:
We will develop an approach to browsers where we support and certify a short list of current browsers. This list includes:
- Internet Explore 6.0 on PC (including AOL)
- Netscape 7.0 on PC and Mac
- Safari 2.0.1 and up on a Mac
- Firefox 1.0 and up on PC and Mac

Technologies:
HTML, CSS, Java Script, Flash

We will construct the base form of the site with HTML. The navigation concept will be illustrated dynamically with Flash.

3. SPECIAL TECHNICAL CHALLENGES
Some of the dynamic functions will need to be simulated in lieu of development.

4. PAGE SIZE TARGETS
Page size is very important for Google as search website.

Page Dimensions and Size:
The home page dimensions will be 770 x 400 or 100% of user's screen resolution. Page size will be under 60k. The search result will be designed for wider screens (1800 x 1000) and will have longer download times.

5. FILE NAMING CONVENTION

Title Tag:
Page titles should include google and then the secondary navigation name: "Site name: Secondary name. (ex. Goolge: Groups)
Search result pages should have key word and google. (ex. If you search “mustang”, Mustang – Google Search)

Web file naming rules :
- No spaces in the filenames
- Use all lowercase letters
- No special characters in the filenames
- The files MUST have the proper suffix (.html, .gif, .jpg)
- No spaces in file names, all lowercase letters, and no special characters except for underscores.
- All files must include extensions. (ex. Index.html)
- When numbering files use 001, 002 as numbering convention. (people_004.gif)
Files are to be named according to the section/page name so that the name reflects the information design.
- Images are to be named according to their function.

Cascading Style Sheets Naming Rules:

CSS names will be named according to their function: (i.e. Header, subheader, text title etc &) so that the color, and fonts may change over time, but the CSS name will still have meaning as to the use on the page. (ex. "Header_large" means this is the style used for the large headers across the site. Additionally, navigation CSS treatments will not be used for text body elements and vice versa, to maintain separation of content and navigation.)

6. SITE DIRECTORY STRUCTURE
On the server, the top level of the Site Directory contains the Homepage (index.html), image directory, and subdirectories for the second level pages on the site.

Second level directories named after the menu items will contain an index.html and image directory to allow for easy deletion and alteration of possible sliced images. The main image directory on the top level will contain global images such as application buttons and navigation images.

7. SITE REVISION CONVENTIONS
We will create a brand new project directory per the above specifications. All team members use Dreamweaver to build and develop work through a check-in and check-out functions.

The new Google site should have good functionality, and the user experience with specific technologies.

Content Updates:
Content will be updated via client's content management system.
