Through the years, my understanding of the concept of design has continuously evolved, from beautiful objects to the dynamics of form and function and more recently, it expanded from 'design for the people' to 'design with the people'. I finished my undergraduate design at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology where I started seeking a space for myself in the expanse of design. Often wondered about my strengths and how design could utilize them? The clarity emerged at the closure of my final project in my undergraduate program, where I conducted a research study to understand problems faced by visually impaired while studying mathematics. This project widened my perspective on design and in due course of professional practice in user centered design research involving ICT for Rural India, I developed a keen desire to explore various methodologies of Design Research and Co-Creation within the realm of Interaction.
This lead to me pursue my Graduate degree in Media Design Program.
Enrolled in the three year program, my core interest is in its research concentration path. However, Media Design Program (MDP) as an environment not only furthers my interest in the design research methods but, also leverages my dialogue with interaction design and pervasive digital media. Here, I have been initiated into various facets of critical media discourses and fine selection of modules have helped me gain a hands on experience of facilitating tangible and intangible interactions. This was supplemented through the experiments conducted using the methods inquiry, provocation and intervention as tools for investigating and engaging people in critical social dialogues. Within the scope of design research my principle interest lies in participatory and generative methods of research, I believe that design must also facilitate, invoking critical thought and creation can occur in collaboration with people who use it.The acquired learning and perspective helps in better positioning my larger scheme of pursuits, where the objective is to obtain deeper understanding of how various design methods can be appropriated to enable and facilitate an informed interactions.
