Compulsion Engineers - Comm Design 2 - M2

Communication Design 2 was probably my most difficult class the second term in that I was forced to learn typography on the fly while designing a multi-spread layout of a design and response piece. This was our first project and we were told to find a piece of literature which inspired us and from which we could draw some sort of direction for design theory. The piece that I chose was an online article from the video game industry site, Gamasutra, called Compulsion Engineers by Tynan Sylvester. After countless iterations and stabs in the dark, the end result can be seen above or in PDF form here.

The following images are just some of the many iterations of design that were attempted while coming up with the final typographical treatment talked about before. Most were too illustrative or did not place enough emphasis on the message of the piece rather than the appearance. Overall, while I do still enjoy some of these earlier sketches, I am pleased with how the final product turned out.
