Creating Aliens
Foreigner, immigrant, incomer, newcomer, outlander, outsider, stranger... ALIEN, little green guy?
What is an alien? A foreigner? An extraterrestrial? Is there a difference? Why does American English not differentiate the word “alien”? Should we take it literally? This book is a toy. You may change and shape the people, but no human matches up. Only aliens may be created. Living in the States can be frustrating because there are so many limitations set for aliens.
The first section of the book contains portraits of people. The other half is the world “foreigner” in different languages, written by immigrants. To create this piece I had to engage with other aliens, collecting and sharing their stories and photographing people of all ages and backgrounds, each with their own style.
