Music Constellation
Productive Interaction, 2010
Instructor: Phil van Allen
Music Constellation is a system that is designed to experience music through seeing information while listening. The interchangeable plate which fits into the continuous turn potentiometer sensor triggers to play the music. Use of the graphic plate allows the user to visually understand the information that is represented on the plate by reading during their interaction. The plate can be designed to afford different genre of the music to serve wide range of listening experiences.
In this particular scenario, I chose Blues & Swings of jazz as a genre of music for user to experience. I made a direct comparison of the original 30s and 40s of Blues with the most recent artists to emphasize how traditional jazz still influences today for many young talented artists. The comparison which indicates the historical aspect of learning the old and the new artists simultaneously gives user a new listening experience.
This project explores the tangible interaction through the limited palette of one physical sensor and one media effector.
Arduino, Adobe Flash, potentiometer and
NET Lab Toolkit were used to create this project.
