Superstudio phase 2 (Mobo)

Mobo is a handheld Mobil object designed for the tween (kids age 11-14) demographic that addresses the three themes of technology, personal agency and engagement. Mobo is aware of a range of emotional states from excitement to frustration.  It is a reactive personal space allowing tweens to focus on being in the moment, allowing for a unique opportunity to reduce stress in their lives.

Materials | Technologies concepts

By looking at other living organisms and their environments, it offered different avenues to pursue.

We discovered these vibrations could best be thought of as an unknown or unfamiliar world, a private space with luminous energy.

To help guide our vision, one of our goals was to create working prototypes incorporating the right materials and technologies.

We asked ourselves, is it alive? Are you holding it, or is it holding your hand. We concluded that it was both these thing; and as a result that tension was an inherent part of the objects materiality.

To inspire the development of our technologies we analyzed a variety of electronic toys with similar behaviors and characteristics. In some cases we repurpose exciting parts and in other cases we invented new approaches and working prototypes.

We came to a turning point, where rather than having an object encompass you, you encompass the object.
