By looking at models of innovative renewable solutions in solar energy, I translated these ideas into a project called ‘endless energy’. This is a poster designed to express a unique look at how we can use models of self-sufficient cycles. The poster represented this sustainable cycle in several steps. First, in order to maintain the natural resources of wood the paper was burned using the sun’s energy concentrated through a magnifying glass to create fertilizer. The resulting ash can be used for the growth of trees that in turn can result in the re-population of a forest. Finally, the wood from the trees can be used to create paper and the cycle is regenerated. inkjet on rage paper, copper wire, magna-page cupsField and greenhouse research confirms the safety and practicality of recycling wood ash on agricultural lands. Wood ash has a liming effect of between 8 and 90 percent of the total neutralizing power of lime, and can increase plant growth up to 45 percent over traditional limestone.
Solar technology in fabric’s and textiles is an interesting space I see becoming more embedded in our daily lives. Solar power is becoming more important in the development of high-tech fabrics and wearable technology. As more power-hungry gadgets flood the make place the use for alternative energy sources is becoming a necessary solution.
A new garment that recently entered the market place is the ScotteVest SeV. This is the latest evolution of a jacket embedded with solar power solutions for our every day objects we interact with regularly. The Solar SeV takes the original SeV jacket, which features the patented Personal Area Network (PAN) of integrated channeling for personal electronics wiring, and Adds removable solar panels. The panels fully charge an integrated cigarette packet-sized battery in as little as 2-3 hours, which in turn can charge a range of personal electronic devices from mobile phones to mp3 players. What's more, the electronics can be used even if the battery isn't fully charged as long as the solar panels are exposed to light. Even ambient light will do although, naturally, direct sunlight is better.
One of the most intriguing aspects of this garment is, with new technology, cells are becoming more efficient and are providing more flexible solutions for our daily electronic tools and gadget use. Along with a design model of “always on” functionality a ready power supply could become much easier. As we embrace the world of ubiquity around us. Solutions like this ScotteVest will help us realize the standard of our near future.
