Bio — CV — Press

Jed Berk received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Art Center College of Design in 2006. His work has been exhibited, published and reviewed by an international audience. Referring to his creative pursuits as "co-inhabiting with others," Jed's work exists between the intersection of art, science and emerging technologies. The work often builds upon making semi-domesticated, biologically inspired objects that live in a networked-based ecosystem. His current work, 'Transitional Species,' is a body of networked objects that interact with their environment, each other and people. Projects are developed around an evolving object-based ecosystem inspired from principles found in biomimetics. Some projects include: Autonomous Light Air Vessels (ALAVs), GeeseNecks, Float-a-Pet, PCBunny, n(L)ight Life, and Climate Controlled Sheep.

Having received much media attention and acclaim from the art, science and technology communities, Jed's work has been included in media festivals, exhibitions and technology conferences through out the US and Asia.

He was selected as part of the Beall Center's 2007 "Emerging Artists" series. The Beall Center for Art and Technology supports artistic exploration and experimentation in new technologies through a competitive exhibition program. His work was selected to be exhibited at 2006 ACM Multimedia Arts Exhibition, the 2006 Maker Faire, and 2006 SECT - Seminar in Experimental Critical Theory  at the Beall Center.

Jed has been filmed by the Australian production company Beyond Productions for their global science & technology show Beyond Tomorrow on the Discovery Network. He has also been interviewed by NBC's Tonight Show hosted by Jay Lenoand and his projects have appeared on CNN as one of the Maker Faire's special exhibitions. In addition, his work has drawn interest from Nasa/JPL and has been demonstrated in various educational environments.
