syllabus

description : 


This lab course is focused on the design and implementation of successful web sites. Students will learn the fundamentals of web site design, web graphics, HTML, and authoring tools. Design issues such as effective communication, page layout, audience, technical constraints, and navigation will be addressed. Students will design and implement web sites that can be included in their portfolios.



course structure : 

The course involves lectures and exercises on a series of topics. Students complete several projects during the term to apply the concepts discussed. A final project is assigned that synthesizes the concepts learned in a small commercial website. The midterm and final are critiqued in class.

 

 
objectives : 

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:

  1. Think critically about web design
  2. Design successful web sites with efffective design of visuals, navigation and information
  3. Create web sites by hand coding HTML and by using an authoring tool
  4. Utilize the essential features of the web medium including:
    1. text formatting
    2. gif and jpeg images
    3. links
    4. tables
    5. rollovers
    6. image slicing
    7. frames
    8. forms
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the web design process
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of how technical constraints affect web design
  7. Name files correctly and FTP files to a web server

CGR C/055 DIGITAL DESIGN 1

materials : 

You will need several Zip disks or a FireWire drive to backup and transport your work. All assignments and projects will be delivered electronically to the Art Center server.

Remember to label your Zip disks/Firewire drives with your name and phone number. Students often lose their disks by leaving them in the lab: labeling your disks will increase the chance the disks will be returned.
